Hi! I am 35 years old lady and really becoming belligerent due to fast increasing weight. I made lots of efforts to reduce it but didn’t get any fruitful outcomes. I really feel uncomfortable when I come in contact with people who are slim and smart. I also want my appearance like them. Please give me some suggestions for reducing the constantly growing weight.

Dewitt - what efforts exactly have you made so far in order to try and decrease your weight?

A lot of current research seems to be suggesting that you can tackle the problem from two main angles: 1) increasing your body's metabolism, and 2) eating less calories than you are burining each day.

Regarding 1), the six main principles seem to be:

a) eat five to six meals a day. Add a morning snack and an afternoon snack.

b) try not to eat anything within three hours of sleeping at night.

c) make sure you are getting a good night's sleep.

d) as a general rule, your largest meal of the day should be a breakfast, full of complex carbohydrates. Try to eat it as soon as you wake up, to get your body's metabolism machine working. Then, as the day wears on you should be eating less and less carbs with each meal.

e) excercise! In particular, weight training excercise increases muscle mass, which helps burn calories.

f) try to avoid mixing carbs and fat at any one meal. So carbs and protein is ok, and fat and protein is ok.

As for 2), if you want to eat less calories than you are burning then first you need to calculate how many calories your body currently requires in a day. There are many online calorie calculators out there.

Next you need to try and make sure you are eating about 300-500 calories less each day than you are burning. This should let you lose weight at a rate of 0.5 - 1kg a week, which is considered a safe speed for weight loss. It may sound slow but if you think about it, that's 25-50kg in a year.

Hope this helps - let us know how it goes!
