Your doctor will measure your testosterone levels before testosterone therapy, and will closely monitor your testosterone levels throughout. For women, the usual blood levels of testosterone are 2-4 nmol/L (compared with 12-35mol/L for men).
Possible Side Effects
If you are having any of the following side effects, please see your doctor as soon as possible. It may be necessary to alter your dose.
Possible side effects include:
- Increase in body hair, particularly on the upper-lip
- Swollen joints
- Nausea and vomiting
- Acne becoming worse
- Jaundice
- Voice becoming deeper
- Weight gain
- Persistant headaches
- Signs of virilisation/masculination
Testosterone Therapy and Post Menopausal Women
Testosterone therapy is not recommended for post-menopausal women who are not also taking estrogen supplements.
